A source close to Toyota has told Automotive News the next-gen Prius' production launch has been pushed back until December 2015. Originally, the next generation Prius was scheduled to enter production next spring but its launch has now been postponed until December 2015. One of the reasons is believed to be related to the engineer desire to make sure all body and chassis issues are fixed and the vehicle will be able to provide the maximum fuel economy possible. Set to deliver a fuel economy improvement of at least ten percent, the 2016 Prius (codenamed 690A) will utilize the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and will boast a revolutionary design together with a more comfortable cabin. Expect improved handling as a result of a lower center of gravity and a massive 20 percent weight loss. The same source says a plug-in hybrid variant will be launched around October 2016.
